Work Experience - NAIT Staff

During my two week work experience project for NAIT I took a bunch of photos from carpentry and machinist still lives to retirement parties.  These are some of my favorites from the hundreds that I took.

NAIT Portfolio

These are the twelve images I chose for my Portfolio assignment for NAIT.  If we could have chosen any photos we have taken I would probably have made other choices but all photos had to be taken this semester which limited me.  The mark it received was disappointing as it was mainly based on the suspicion of lack of commitment, I completely disagree with this as I trudged through knee to waste deep snow to get many of these shots.  Regardless of marks, I believe these are decent shots and I hope that you like them.

Some First Year Assignments

Here are a few assignments I worked on in my first year at NAIT.

This was a "Glamourize and Deglamourize"project for digital, my real face is somewhere in between these two.

This may have been my first digital assignment ever, I made this small lego man large and in charge. Ready to destroy the city.

I had a Critique class and this was for "Light". It took me about fifty matches to get this down, I still think I could have gotten better, but I was running out of matches.

This was another Critique for a self portrait.  No photoshop to the flames, it was all on camera. Just a long exposure and a flash.

This was a photo reproduction of a Phillipe Halsman's photo of Salvador Dali.

I'm so glad that I found this photo, it is a scan of a print from two 4x5 negatives I mashed together in the print tunnel.  Originally black and white, I added a sepia toner to the final product.  One of my earliest photos from NAIT, it is still one of my favorite photos I have ever taken. (Especially because I developed, printed and toned it myself)

Diamond Properties for NAIT

These are a collection of photos I took for an assignment last year for NAIT.  I took them at the campground that my parents and two other couples purchased not too long ago.  It is right on the lake and surrounded by trees.

My Own Backyard

Sometimes inspiration can come from your own backyard.  One day during the summer I noticed mushrooms growing on my lawn and it just took off from there.  I travelled from the front yard to the back. This was one of the firs times that I experiment with my 17-70mm lens and now it is one of my main lenses that I use.

Poplar Estates

Some photos around my parent's place in Poplar Estates.  My mom's dog, Maggie likes to pose for the camera.  My Gma makes the gnome houses.

Fine Art Experiment

One of my "Fine Art" class assignments was to do an experiment where the photographer is removed from influencing how the subject poses and acts.  I chose to use space between the subject and camera to be the overall influence.  First using a wide angle lens with a minimal distance and then backing away and using a long lens. This is Eric Paul and his roommate.
